Language teaching methodology is a dynamic and multifaceted field that encompasses a range of approaches designed to facilitate second language acquisition (SLA). This article offers an in-depth examination of both historical and contemporary language teaching methods, including the grammar-translation method, direct method, audio-lingual method, communicative language teaching (CLT), task-based language teaching (TBLT), and content and language integrated learning (CLIL). It analyzes the theoretical foundations, classroom applications, and relative advantages and limitations of each method. Additionally, the article explores the emergence of post-method pedagogy, which advocates for flexible, learner-centered approaches tailored to diverse contexts. The ultimate goal is to equip language educators with a critical understanding of methodology to inform effective teaching practices.
